While we were living in Plymouth in 1976 a friend and work colleague, Judy, came to dinner with her husband. They saw some photos of M on the wall and in conversation said that they didn't have any nice ones of her. M and I both thought she was beautiful but she dressed very conservatively and wore no make-up with her hair tied back and an overall "mousy" look. So, after dinner M did this dramatic "make-over" to a pre-raphaelite romantic style for some photos.

She, and even more her husband, were thrilled with the effect and after that she changed her look completely both socially and at work. As with Kate and others since, It is interesting how a single photo session can have such a big effect of people's self-image and life...
