Beautiful wild rose - a photo on Flickriver

From "The Naked Portrait" series. There is something special in the look of a head-and-shoulders portrait taken when naked – often this can be missed because the viewer naturally wants to take in the whole view. I am therefore making a series of "naked portraits", cropped from original nude photos, which can also be flagged "safe" so they can be seen by a wider range of people. For some of them (including this one) the full frame has been archived and is no longer on display.

We had been enjoying a picnic in a little clearing deep in the woods (at Fawke Common, Kent) on a very warm day in the summer of 1971 and M was sure that the wild roses had a sweet scent - I thought they didn't. So she rather rashly waded into the rosebush to pick one and proved me wrong, though she had to try several before she found one with a scent. Luckily I had my camera with me and took a couple of snaps as she was searching.

I like the way this unposed shot captured her intense appreciation of the beauty of the fresh-scented flower.

Taken the same time as this one which I processed to get an illustration effect – I thought it was symbolic of the general quest for perfection.
