Brussel Europarlement - a photo on Flickriver

            The Leopold area is the whole of the buildings in the Leopold district in Brussels that house the European Parliament, the legislative chamber of the European Union. The location is located between the Leopold Park and the Place du Luxembourg and is cut in half by the Wiertzstraat.

The total office area is 398,200 m2 and can accommodate 3,200 offices, 87 meeting rooms and 50 interpreter booths and the large parliamentary meeting room. role is reserved for the Immeuble Louise Weiss in Strasbourg, but as most of the other institutions of the European Union are based in Brussels, Parliament has a second seat here. Although Parliament must therefore officially maintain its headquarters in Strasbourg, most parliamentary work today takes place in Brussels. That city is therefore known in the international media as the de facto capital of the European Union.

De Leopoldruimte is het geheel van de gebouwen in de Leopoldwijk in Brussel die onderdak bieden aan het Europees Parlement, de wetgevende kamer van de Europese Unie. De locatie ligt tussen het Leopoldpark en het Luxemburgplein en wordt doormidden gesneden door de Wiertzstraat.

De totale kantooroppervlakte bedraagt 398.200 m2 en biedt plaats aan 3200 kantoren, 87 vergaderzalen en 50 tolkencabines en de grote parlementaire vergaderzaal.

De Leopoldruimte is niet de officiële zetel van het Parlement. Die rol is voorbehouden aan het Immeuble Louise Weiss in Straatsburg, maar aangezien de meeste andere instellingen van de Europese Unie in Brussel gevestigd zijn, heeft het Parlement hier een tweede hoofdplaats. Hoewel het Parlement zijn hoofdkwartier dus officieel in Straatsburg moet houden, gebeurt het meeste parlementaire werk tegenwoordig in Brussel. Die stad staat daardoor in de internationale media dan ook bekend als de de facto hoofdstad van de Europese Unie.
