Sir Winston Churchill painting a Madeira landscape

A life-size sculpture in front of a Madeira hotel immortalizes Churchill's vacation trip to the Portuguese island in 1950. Churchill was a politician and statesman, a journalist and author, and a painter, too. On this vacation, he painted "Câmara de Lobos, The Fishing Port of Madeira" from up on a cliff near the hotel. Madeirans were so impressed by his visit that this location has been called Churchill Bay ever since. [P1090086_lr_2000]
