20150615_7983_1D3-105 Waves at Rakaia Lagoon

            I feel safe standing on the boat ramp at North Rakaia Huts as the sea pounds the shingle spit separating the lagoon from the sea.  Yesterday the sea swept over the shingle barrier and deposited debris on the boat ramp, car park and road.  I was speaking to a farmer earlier who farms near here and he said they lose a strip of land about 1 metre wide every year to the slowly invading sea.
