La  Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, es un basílica menor, y templo expiatorio y santuario de adoración eucarística, situado en la colina de Montmartre, en Clignancourt, XVIII distrito de París. Su construcción fue decidida por la Asamblea Nacional en 1873, como un edificio religioso a perpetuidad en homenaje a la memoria de los numerosos ciudadanos franceses que habían perdido la vida durante la Guerra franco-prusiana​, pero sus promotores fueron acusados desde sus inicios de levantarlo también para expiar los pecados de la Comuna de París.​ Se organizó un concurso para elegir el arquitecto que la diseñaría, fue el arquitecto Paul Abadie quien ganó el concurso para su construcción.

La primera piedra se colocó en 1875, y aunque se completó en 1914, no se consagró hasta el fin de la Primera Guerra Mundial, en 1919. La iglesia fue construida con fondos procedentes exclusivamente de una suscripción popular, en la actualidad es uno de los monumentos más visitados de la Ville Lumière. 

La planta del edificio tiene forma de cruz griega, adornada con cuatro cúpulas: el domo central, de 80 m. de altura, está tocado por una linterna, formada por una columnata. En el ábside, una inmensa torre cuadrada hace las veces de campanario que guarda, entre otras, la Savoyarde, una campana de 3 m de diámetro y de 18.550 kg de peso, ofrecida por la diócesis de Chambéry. La cripta posee la misma disposición que la iglesia, y es una de las curiosidades de la basílica.

La arquitectura se inspira en la arquitectura romana y bizantina e influyó en otros edificios religiosos del siglo XX, como la Basílica de Santa Teresa de Lisieux. Es posible acceder a la basílica tomando el funicular de Montmartre. 

The Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, is a minor basilica, and expiatory temple and sanctuary of Eucharistic adoration, located on the Montmartre hill, in Clignancourt, 18th district of Paris. Its construction was decided by the National Assembly in 1873, as a perpetual religious building in homage to the memory of the many French citizens who had lost their lives during the Franco-Prussian War, but its promoters were accused from the beginning of building it also to atone for the sins of the Paris Commune A contest was organized to choose the architect who would design it, it was the architect Paul Abadie who won the contest for its construction.

The first stone was laid in 1875, and although it was completed in 1914, it was not consecrated until the end of the First World War, in 1919. The church was built with funds coming exclusively from a popular subscription, today it is one of the most visited monuments of the Ville Lumière.

The floor of the building is in the shape of a Greek cross, adorned with four domes: the central dome, 80 m. high, it is touched by a lantern, formed by a colonnade. In the apse, an immense square tower serves as a bell tower that houses, among others, the Savoyarde, a bell measuring 3 m in diameter and weighing 18,550 kg, offered by the Diocese of Chambéry. The crypt has the same layout as the church, and is one of the curiosities of the basilica.

The architecture is inspired by Roman and Byzantine architecture and influenced other religious buildings of the 20th century, such as the Basilica of Saint Therese of Lisieux. The basilica is accessible by taking the Montmartre funicular.
