Asahi Pentax, a Camera With Lots of Firsts

             Tucson,  July 2020 —  This camera from the Asahi Optical Company is the Pentax. Not their first camera, that was the Asahiflex, a Single Lens Reflex camera with a waist-level viewfinder.

When they came out with the Pentax in 1957, they added a pentaprism which enabled the photographer to be able to hold the camera up to the eye and actually see out the lens. When you add the rapid-wind film lever, the rapid film rewind crank, the instant mirror return, and the microprism focusing aid you have a very unique camera for the time. Most of these features are still being used in cameras today. The camera became so popular that the name of the company was dwarfed by the name of the camera.

This image was imported into Photomechanic to add metadata.  I used Lightroom to add camera and lens profiles and the Topaz plug-ins Denoise, Mask, and Sharpen to  spruce up the image. Adobe Photoshop finallized the image.
