Opilion faucheux

"Contrairement à leurs cousines, les araignées (ordre des Araneae), les faucheux ne sécrètent pas de soie et ne construisent donc pas de toile, et leur corps apparaît compact et non pas divisé en deux parties, le céphalothorax et l'abdomen, même si cette segmentation est sous-jacente. Deux yeux (contre six ou huit chez les araignées) occupent souvent une petite tourelle dorsale, le mamelon oculaire ou ocularium, à l'avant du céphalothorax. Petits, ils ne servent vraisemblablement pas à détecter la nourriture ou les ennemis, ou à orienter l'animal, mais contribuent au contrôle du rythme des activités diurnes et nocturnes de chaque espèce. Comme d'autres arachnides, les faucheux vivent dans un monde dominé par le toucher et le goût, plus que par la vision."
