"Scarlet" - a photo on Flickriver

"Scarlet"

            I saw him yesterday in the woods.  This morning I got in my mini-blind near the feeder and waited for some birds.  Fifteen minutes later---there he was sitting on a branch about 20 feet away.  I had spot exposure on and spot focus---I am not sure whether I exposed for the woods or the bird.  I only had time to squeeze off three shots and he was gone.  Did he hear the camera?  The lens is very noisy!

I haven't seen a scarlet tanager around here for at least 10 years.  I am thrilled with this capture.  I'm waiting to see the female.

I made this image with my Pentax K5 and Sigma 50-500mm lens.

Camera settings:  ISO 800(It should have been set higher---then I could have speeded up the shutter.), aperture f/6.7, shutter 1/100(too slow for a 500mm lens), focal length 500mm
