Federal Palace Construction Site - a photo on Flickriver

            Set against the edge of the rugged cliffs in the northern rim of Hellas Crater (on Mars), nestled comfortably within a bubble of artificial atmosphere, is the Federal Palace of Nova Helvetica.  Home to many of Mars' crypto-mining rigs and as the seat of the Anarcho-monarchy under an aging Satoshi Nakamoto, it is unusual for Mars in that it is a permanent settlement built on the edge an ancient subterranean glacier.  There is no substance as important for life as water, and it is abundant (as frozen water ice) in a scant few places on the red planet.  Anyone who controls the financial system and access to water is already sitting mighty pretty but there's more.  By 2081, as world war threatens to engulf virtually all of humanity, the Federal Palace serves as a major entry port to the National Redoubt in the heart of Hellas Metropolis (HellasMet). In times of war or peace, the National Redoubt can accommodate all of the citizens of Hellas Metropolis with its thousands of miles of tunnels dug deep into the regolith. As a consequence of their policy of "armed neutrality" in the face of two opposing armed camps, the New Swiss planned to resist all threats to their self-determination. If Nova Atlantis were to violate New Swiss neutrality and invade, the last stand against the forces of Nova Atlantis would be fought from within the National Redoubt by volunteers following professional officers.
