Statue of King Rama III, at Wat Yannawa

The inscription from the Thai reads (excuse my poor translation):

"King Rama III (King Nang Klao), son of King Rama II
Born: Monday 31st March B.E.2330 (1787);
Reigned from: Wednesday 21st July B.E.2367 (1824);
Died: Wednesday 2nd April B.E.2394 (1851).

This King recovered the country’s trade and economy after the loss of Ayudhya in B.E2310 (1767) by trading with foreign countries. He developed Bangkok to be the "Great and Prosperous City" with Buddhism, Education, Arts & Culture, and architecture. He safeguarded the country’s territory, created firm domestic and international relations and used his wealth for the benefit of Thailand.

He recovered the crisis in Ratanakosin Era 112 with his trading skills. The Thai People would like to show their respect and given the name “Father of Thai Trade” at this Yannawa Temple BE. 2549 (2006). Queen Sirikitti – chairman of the ceremony at Thursday 24th May 2550 (2007)."
