The old favourite

The old favourite - Ashness jetty on Derwentwater, the old one. Quirky, asymmetric with its odd little steps at the far end and with loads of character. Very much a photographer's favourite and now sadly missed by many.

The new one sits higher in the water, without the need for the helping steps at the end necessary to board the various launches that ply the lake. It doesn't have half the character of the old one and also has a hideous concrete lead in just to add salt to the wounds.

The whole point of the clichéd 'straight down' jetty shot is symmetry. But the way the steps of the old jetty broke the symmetry had an endearing character to them. It made this particular jetty shot both unique and a rule breaker.

I'm not alone in missing the old favourite.
