Noctilucent - Now that the season's drawn to a close, I've finally managed to review and process a series of images captured towards the end of June of noctilucent clouds silhouetting a copse of trees at night, showing the intricate, delicate structure and detail of these rare and spectacular clouds.

Noctilucent (night shining) clouds, or to give them their correct name, polar mesospheric clouds, are the highest and rarest of all clouds, only visible for a few brief weeks around the summer solstice from certain latitudes. The UK is pretty much in the sweet spot for seeing these and this summer we were treated to a bumper display of them. Having been after an image of these for some time now, I finally managed it this summer despite them being notoriously unpredictable and only showing on a handful of occasions. Bearing mind these were captured in the middle, or darkest part of the night, makes them all the more amazing to view.
