Theopetra, Meteora & prehistoric cave

            Theopetra hiding the Earth's Oldest man-made structure

Theopetra —an immense limestone rock formation in Greece— hides a prehistoric cave in it. At the cave’s entrance, the most venerable man-made structure on Earth is located: a stone wall built in 21,000 BC (23,000 years ago).

Theopetra is captured as seen from afar (from 3.4 miles / 5.4 km away), from above the nearby lofty Meteora rocks (some of them, too, are seen in the foreground, right). Meteora is listed in UNESCO world heritage sites.

Caves near Meteora were inhabited since 50,000 yrs ago. Hermit monks lived there since 9th century A.D.

Monasteries were built on Meteora since 14th c. A.D. Meteora hosts one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos.
