Inktober Day 3 "vessel" 2021

            I love this scene In HG Wells War of the Worlds. I've always wished I'd had some reason to draw and publish this story. It is so good and so timeless. In my favorite scene three martian machines attack a convoy of boats leaving England ahead of the Martian invasion. Unscrupulous boat captains waited longer and overloaded their vessels to increase their profits. The Martians came swiftly and the overloaded vessels couldn't get away. The vessels HMS Thundercloud and HMS Thunderchild came out of nowhere engaging the martians head on. The Martians fired their heat rays melting the ships' steel armor like wax. The ships exploded. They also discharged the black canisters (a heavier than air poison gas that kills living creatures dead on contact) and they hit off the ships engulfing all them in a cloud of the "black smoke". Suddenly the Thundercloud, on fire and badly damaged, but her steering gear intact, steamed at full power out of the cloud and into one of the martians. The martian crumpled like foil. The remaining martians engaged the ships. The crowds of people cheered and the boats blew their horns.  The sounds of guns firing and explosions, and glimpses of the heat rays could be heard in the clouds of black smoke. The vessels escaped that day and the Thundercloud and Thund ere child were forever Lauded as heroes.
