Herbstlaub / autumn leaves - a photo on Flickriver

Die Süntelbuchenallee im Kurpark Bad Nenndorf. Hier eine weitere Aufnahme mit bei strahlendem Sonnenschein und dem letzten Blattwerk dieses Jahres.

Zwischen 1902 und 1910 pflanzte der Bad Nenndorfer Gartenbaumeister Carl Thon die Süntelbuchenallee im Kurpark von Bad Nenndorf. Der heutige Bestand beläuft sich auf über hundert alte Bäume mit einem Alter von über 100 Jahren, 30 Nachpflanzungen im Alter zwischen 15-25 Jahren sowie rund 40 durch Absenkerbildung und Wurzelbrut entstandene Bäume.

Die Süntelbuchen sind eine seltene Varietät der Rotbuchen und beeindrucken durch ihre verdrehten, verkrüppelten, miteinander verwachsenen Äste und der sehr kurzen, drehwüchsigen Stämme. Dabei wachsen die Bäume mehr in die Breite als in die Höhe und erreichen nur selten eine Höhe von über 15 Metern. Früher bezeichnete man sie auch als Hexenholz oder Teufels-Buche, weil man die Bäume als verwunschen oder vom Teufel verdorben ansah. Auch die Waldbesitzer waren keine Freunde der Süntelbuchen. Wegen seines Zicksack-Wuchses ließ es sich nicht einmal als Brennholz stapeln. Die Wuchsform wird durch einen Gendefekt verursacht, wobei die Ursache noch ungeklärt ist.
