Qantas beauty :) VH-EBD Boeing 747-238B on final approach to runway 28L at London Heathrow

The Boeing Collection - a tribute to the Boeing 747 'Queen of the Skies' From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

The sheer size of the 747 Jumbo Jet :) The fourth 747 in the Qantas fleet VH-EBD is seen here on final approach to runway 28L at London Heathrow with flight QF007. The aircraft was already nine years old, and was nearly sold to Eastern Airlines in 1980 - but went on to fly for another five years with Qantas before ending up with PEOPLExpress.

VH-EBD 'City of Perth' c/n 20012 Boeing 747-238B was delivered new to Qantas in Dec 1971 - the fourth 'Jumbo Jet' in the fleet. The aircraft flew with the airline for 14 years. In 1994, the aircraft returned to Boeing as N747BN. The aircraft was then sold to PEOPLExpress as N608PE in Sep 1985, but the airline was merged with Continental in 1987. In 1992, it was leased to Garuda Indonesia, but two years later, after 23 years of flying, the aircraft was retired and broken up for parts at Norton AFB.
