            Muir Beach, is a quiet cove, beach and lagoon, three miles west of Muir Woods along the Pacific Ocean coastline.  Redwood Creek is a short but significant stream in Marin County, CA, 4.7 miles long, that drains a 7-square-mile watershed which includes the Muir Woods National Monument, and reaches the Pacific Ocean north of the Golden Gate at Muir Beach.  Muir Beach is home to numerous shorebirds, amphibians, salmon and trout, and marshy, water-loving plants called rushes (Juncus).  This expansive network of wetlands, lagoon, and dunes is being restored by a partnership between the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and is intending to increase the capacity of the creek and floodplain system to convey water and sediment, and adding diverse habitat conditions for the endangered Coho salmon and threatened California red-legged frog.
