Willow Sunset - a photo on Flickriver

Willow Sunset

            Willow Lake – This show I took at Willow Lake a few days ago when we had a good sunset. I was shooting a tree and I always like to look around me as well as behind to see if I am missing anything. I am glad I did. They clouds started to glow so I recomposed for a shot facing the action and took a few frames while it lasted. This shot is when the colors were at their best. It started to fade right after into blues. 

The technical: Shot with a Nikon D810 with a Tamron 15-30. Shot 15mm wide to capture as much of the clouds as possible. Underexposed to make sure I got good saturation in the sky. Then in Lightroom I brought the shadows up to the exposure my eyes saw when I was out there. This tends to flatten the image so I then added some contrast with the dehaze tool. This made the color a little too saturated and warm so I dropped the white balance temperature a little and dropped the saturation to a -3. This made the granite rocks look a little more realistic again. I did some slight dodging and burning in the sky and rocks and spot removal because I had some dust on my lens. This made it pretty close to what it looked like when I was out there. I hope you enjoy.
