Watchful Companion

            My dog, Samwise, keeping me company and eyeing the goats behind me.  Mt. Jefferson in the background (Three Fingered Jack would be to my left).  Down below is the upper Canyon Creek Meadows, the spot we were originally supposed to go to, ha!  This was his first hiking experience in the dark, and he did pretty good; he tends to be extra vigilant and paranoid when it's dark out so I was expecting worse.  We stopped a couple times for him to sniff at some large toads that ambled across the path, and of course there was the annoying constant need to pee on everything, but all-in-all he didn't slow me down too much.  And since I now know he fits in my tiny 1 person tent with me and the gear, I foresee more extended trips with him.  What a fella! ;)
