Tollbodgaten, Kristiansand, Norway - a photo on Flickriver

            Tollbodgata (3-83, 2-66) is a street in Kvadraturen in Kristiansand which is located in the district Kvadraturen / Eg. The street runs from Honnørbrygga by Vestre havn to Elvegata by Otra and is identical to county road 27 in Vest-Agder. 77 properties are registered to the street. The street has previously been called Stengaten.
Tollboden (registered to Vestre Strandgate), after which the street is named, was designed by Christian Heinrich Grosch and built in 1827. The building is on the National Heritage Board's list of objects to be preserved because it is representative of nation building in the period after 1814; a signal building by the standards of the time.
The courthouse, which is, among other things, the haunt of the Agder police district and Kristiansand district court, has the address Tollbodgata 45, while Kristiansand prison, which is located in the same building, is registered at Rådhusgata.
Kvadraturen school center has the address Tollbodgata 75. Today's facilities cover an entire quarter. From 1803-04, there was a penitentiary at this address in one of the city's largest wooden buildings with three floors. After renovation, the building became a seminar from 1877 and continued as Kristiansand teacher training school from 1902 until the 1960s, and it has also housed Sørlandets kindergarten teacher training school.
