Hang’n with the Troll (Explored) - a photo on Flickriver

            This larger-than-life troll is under the Fremont bridge in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. The Fremont Troll was erected in 1990. The Fremont Arts Council sponsored the project, which hoped to build a greater sense of place in the neighborhood through art, and with it a stronger community. The Troll was selected in an open competition in which the community voted on proposals designed by four finalists. Many volunteers helped prepare the site and create the ferro-cement sculpture. Support came from time, money and in-kind donations by the community and a grant from the Seattle Neighborhood Matching Funds Program. Maintenance is provided by the Fremont Arts Council and community volunteers and donors.

That is a real Volkswagen Beetle under the Trolls left hand.

A troll is a being in Scandinavian folklore, including Norse mythology. There is a large Scandinavian community that lives in Seattle (I'm guessing due to Seattle's climate and ease of access to nature and the fishing industry).
