La garcita verdosa o verde (Butorides virescens) es una especie de ave pelecaniforme de la familia Ardeidae.
Es relativamente pequeña; un adulto mide 44 cm de longitud. El cuello tiene una bifurcación apoyada contra el cuerpo. Los adultos tienen un penacho brillante verde negruzco, dorso verduzco y alas gris oscuras graduando a verde o a azul, un cogote castaño con una línea blanca, partes bajas gris y patas amarillas. El pico es negro con un punto largo. Las hembras adultos son más pequeñas que los machos, con plumaje más apagado y liviano, particularmente en la estación de cría. Las formas juveniles son de color más tenue, con cabeza, cuello y partes bajas marrón y blanco, y alas verde amarillentas.

The green or green garcita (Butorides virescens) is a species of bird in the heron family Ardeidae pelecaniforme. 
It is relatively small; an adult is 44 cm in length. The neck has a fork leaning against body.3 Adults have a bright tuft blackish green, greenish back and wings dark gray to green or blue graduating, a chestnut neck with a white line, gray and yellow legs lowlands. The bill is black with a long point. The adult females are smaller than males, with more muted and light, particularly in the breeding season plumage. Juveniles are more subdued color, with head, neck and lower parts brown and white, green and yellow wings.
