Rare sunshine

            It's winter 1981 in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Occasionally, the sun would come out and the temperatures would almost become temperate. When they did, the college students would pull the short pants out of mothballs.

On a fine February afternoon in Corvallis, the Wrens Turn is returning to town after working industries to the west. Naturally, in Southern Pacific's Oregon Division timetable, this train is westbound. When it arrives at the modest freight yard in Corvallis, it will clear the outbound Toledo Hauler, due fairly soon. 

In four years, SP 3879 and I will have a reunion. When I was living in Lakeview, Oregon, it was the regular power on SP's local into town during fall 1985.
