Strongbow's Tomb

            The tomb of Richard de Clare, known as Strongbow, the 2nd Earl of Pembroke. He was born in 1130 in Tonbridge, Kent and led the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169, during the reign of Henry II. He was captured in Dublin in 1170. He married Aoife MacMurrough, Princess of Leinster, a descendant of Brian Boru in 1171.In 1172 he and his wife's uncle, Archbishop Laurence O’Toole began the rebuilding of Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin. He died on 26th April 1176
