            Смоленск - административный центр Смоленской области. Расположен на на реке Днепр. Один из древнейших городов России. Первое упоминание 863 год. Носит звание «Город-герой».
Смоленская крепостная стена - оборонное сооружение, выстроенное в 1595-1602 годах в годы правления царей Федора Иоанновича и Бориса Годунова. Памятник архитектуры. Архитектор - Фёдор Конь. Протяженность стен - 6,5 км (сохранилось меньше половины стен и башен). Не правильно называть Смоленский кремль.

Smolensk is a city and the administrative center of Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located on the Dnieper River. One of the most ancient cities of Russia. The first mention of the 863 year.
Smolensk fortress wall (Smolensk Kremlin). The partially preserved fortress wall was built between 1595 and 1602, durings the reign of Tsars Fyodor I Ioannovich and Boris Godunov. The length of the walls is about 6.5 kilometres, of which less than the half was preserved. The fortifications were built under supervision of the architect Fyodor Kon.
