Woman in a wheel chair with a soap opera playing on a TV in the background

            This elderly woman was in the waiting room of a MD specialized in "pain management": a fancy name for the prescription of opiates.

 In the background, a current episode of a show with a run of more than three decades: the soap opera "General Hospital". The TV show offered me the second, but crucial element of this shot. 

This shot is, in many ways, a tribute to a somewhat underrated American master of photography: Lee Friedlander. Friedlander worked primarily with Leica 35mm handheld cameras, and brilliantly composed furtive and magical "social landscapes", usually without any awareness-just like in the case of my shot- of his subjects.

 Most decisive moments implied some luck, and to be authentic, they must be stolen!
