De kerk ligt op een hoge terp zodat het gebouw tijdens een watersnoodramp tevens als 'vluchtheuvelkerk' kon dienen. Het kerkje dateert uit 1856 getuige de gevelsteen boven de ingang van de toren : " Van dit bedehuis uit de verenigde liefdegaven der christelijke belangstelling opgericht, is de eerste steen gelegd door Coenraad - Jan Rau van Gamereen tot Homoet op 29 juni 1856". De kerk is een éénbeukige hallenkerk met rijke ornamenten. De bouwstijl is neogothisch met invloeden uit de franse gothiek. Het kerkje werd meerdere malen (o.a. in 1979) gerestaureerd.

The church is situated on a high terp so that the building could also serve as a 'refugee church' during a flood disaster. The church dates from 1856, as witnessed by the plaque above the entrance to the tower: "The first stone of this house of worship, founded by the united charities of Christian interest, was laid by Coenraad - Jan Rau van Gamereen tot Homoet on June 29, 1856". The church is a single-aisled hall church with rich ornaments. The architectural style is neo-gothic with influences from French Gothic. The church was restored several times (including in 1979).
