Leeds 'Chamberlain' tram No. 123 - a photo on Flickriver

An old photograph taken on Armley Road, of 'Chamberlain' car No. 123 showing '14 - Corn Exchange' destination blinds. Route 14 was 'Corn Exchange - City Centre - Wellington St. - Wellington Rd. - Armley Rd. - Stanningley Rd. - Bramley - Stanningley', it closed as a tram route in Jan 1953.

The photo reverse is stamped with the photographer (and/or negative owner) name R. B. Parr and the date 20 Aug 1951.

No. 123 was built by English Electric seating 26/46 running on an EMB 4 wheel pivotal type J truck, going into service May 1927 wearing a Princess Blue & White/Cream livery, in Oct 1946 it was retrucked with a Peckham P35. It was repainted in Feb 1949 in 'Matterface blue' with large wings on the CoA (as in this photo), and in Jan 1952 was reupholstered in 'red rexine' and repainted in its final livery of lined red and white.

It last ran in service in Jul 1956, and in the October was burned at Lowfields Road Permanent Way Yard. The parts of the Leeds tramways systems that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation closing in Nov 1959.
