MET tram No. 16 @ Wood Green - RPPC sent 1907

An old coloured photograph postcard of Metropolitan Electric Tramways (MET) car No. 16 at the Wood Green Tram Terminus, postmarked 30 Jan 1907.

As has been kindly pointed out by JB (KK 69521) in his comment at tinyurl.com/v5wtsksb "the postcard publisher had indulged in some of the early 20th century equivalent of photo-shopping - the overhead wires, trolley pole, and most of the poles holding the overhead wires up have been edited out".

No. 16 was built in 1906 as an open top canopied car by Brush seating 30/38 and running on Brush BB reverse maximum traction 'bogie trucks'. It had a balcony top cover fitted in 1914/5 and in 1931 had its decorative balcony grilles replace by high metal sheeting. In 1933 the MET routes and fleet ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) where 16 became No. 2476, it was withdrawn from service and broken up at Hampstead Depot in Nov 1935.

The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jul 1952.
