I used a 6-stop ND filter to prolong the exposure and capture the movement in the wind turbines. Depending on the wind, and thus the speed of the turbines, about a third to half a second usually produced the effect I wanted.

I obviously processed the hell out of this one to produce an image  in accord with my creative vision. I used Nik Silver Efex Pro to convert to black and white and to push the contrast WAY up. Then I used the Photoshop brush to paint the sky and land really black.

When I first published this on Flickr, the crop was a ratio of 1 to 2. Later, I decided the image was too tight at the top and changed it to a ratio of 5 to 9. To get the intended effect, I suggest pulling your browser window as wide as you can.
