(243/16) Monumento a las víctimas del 11M

El monumento homenaje a las víctimas del 11-M se trata de un monumento para homenajear a las víctimas y fallecidos de los ataques terroristas del 11-M en Madrid.

El monumento se encuentra delante de la estación de tren de Atocha, donde sucedieron parte de los ataques. Se encuentra dividido en dos partes, una exterior y otra interior en la estación. Por fuera, desde la plaza del Emperador Carlos V se puede ver una gran estructura de cristal, un monolito cilíndrico construido con bloques de cristal que tiene una altura de 11 metros y un diámetro de 9,5 metros. Desde el interior de la estación se accede a la parte inferior del monumento, una gran sala diáfana subterránea, con paredes azul cobalto, en cuyo interior el visitante puede mirar hacia arriba para visualizar mensajes en varios idiomas que se recogieron tras los atentados. Estos mensajes están impresos en una burbuja de plástico de 48 kg de peso que se mantiene elevada contra el cilindro de cristal gracias a un compresor de aire que eleva la presión en el interior de la sala. Para evitar que dicha presión descienda, se necesitó instalar cuatro puertas especiales que actúan como esclusas de aire.

The monument is located in front of the Atocha train station, where part of the attacks happened. It is divided into two parts, one outdoor and one indoor at the station. Outside, from the square of Emperor Carlos V you can see a large glass structure, a cylindrical monolith built with glass blocks having a height of 11 meters and a diameter of 9.5 meters. From inside the station leads to the bottom of the monument, a large underground airy room with cobalt blue walls, within which the visitor can look up to display messages in several languages that were collected after the attacks. These messages are printed on a plastic bubble 48 kg weight remains high against the glass cylinder by an air compressor that raises the pressure inside the room. To prevent such pressure drops, it is necessary to install four special doors that act as airlocks.
