Belgrave & Birstall stn (2) looking NW across the stn 11-06-1977

            This station was similar to the present day Rothley and Quorn/Woodhouse stations, which were built to a standard pattern for the 'London Extension' of the GCR around the late 1890s. This station was closed (along with several others on the line) by British Railways in March 1963.

This location is now the 'Leicester North' station at the southern end of the GCR Heritage Railway. 
Vandalism was the reason behind why the heritage railway decided to demolish the station buildings and remove the central platform. The buildings had been ruined beyond repair with regard to safety. I believe demolition of the buildings commenced the weekend following this shot.
