While waiting for a switch engine to start shoving some cars back in his direction - A Green Bay & Western railroader has a few minutes to look over the Roundhouse and diesel servicing area at Green Bay’s Norwood yard.

I did not have a chance to talk to this gentleman on that day, but looking at this photo now I can’t help but wonder if he may have been thinking about how after nearly 100 years of GB&W history at this place, all of it was about to come to an end.

In only about seven more weeks this would all become Wisconsin Central, and many planned changes were already in motion that would affect both motive power and this property, and those changes would come swiftly.

If one calls up a satellite image of this location now, all of the railroad buildings of Norwood yard are gone, leaving only the concrete slabs to show where they once stood. – July 8th, 1993 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
