Der Rosenelf

Inmitten eines Gartens wuchs ein Rosenstrauch,
der war ganz voller Rosen,
und in einer davon, der schönsten von allen,
wohnte ein Elf; er war so winzig klein,
daß kein menschliches Auge ihn sehen konnte,
hinter jedem Blatt in der Rose
hatte er so wohlgestalt und hübsch,
wie ein Kind nur sein konnte,
und hatte Flügel an den Schultern,
hinab bis zu den Füßen.
Oh, es war ein Duft in seinen Zimmern,
und wie hell und schön waren die Wände!
