Barn Swallow - Willapa National Wildlife Refuge 7137

            On our way back from Olympic NP, we just came upon the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge on the Washington coast. It was a fascinating spot although the ranger's office and visitor's center were closed. And so we were left to our own devices whatever that means in this context. There was one thing of interest: hundreds of Barn Swallows were coursing through the air, catching bugs, wheeling, and repeating the process. But, unlike any swallows I had previously encountered, these actually landed!

I came away with over 100 shots, none that good. The bridge over a lagoon was blue! Where do blue swallows perch? On the blue handrails, of course. Over the years, I have tried to photograph swallows, but I'm not that talented when a bird never lands and flies at 200 mph in different directions ... at the same time. I must admit that I don't remember what was so mediocre about this image. Whatever it was, I felt that a rarely used vignette was appropriate.
