Clowes RIB9457 - a photo on Flickriver

Clowes RIB9457

            Clowes Duple 425 RIB9457 caught in the last of the light as it accelerates away from the Royal Oak pub and other buildings which constitute the hamlet of Sparklow while operating the afternoon journey of school contract 019 from Lady Manners School in Bakewell to Newhaven on the A515.

Clowes at one time operated seven of these magnificent machines though I believe the figure has recently receded to five. This example was new to Ashton, St Helens, as G401MFV in January 1991, later passing to Harris, Chessington. Looking otherwise immaculate, the venerable Duple has evidently suffered panel damage at some stage and was indeed in a similar state when I observed it earlier in the afternoon, something which would no doubt impinge upon the 425s vaunted drag factor. 

This route can currently be relied upon to produce a Duple and is the only contract Clowes operate from Lady Manners following the loss of the 016 to Great Longstone to Andrews last October.
