Mausoleo de Amir Temur (Tamerlán). Siglo XIV-XV

            La expansión de los mongoles hacia Asia occidental estuvo protagonizada por Timur, conocido en Occidente por Tamerlán, fundador del Imperio timúrida. Jefe de una tribu turco-mongólica que conquistó el Irán, Mesopotamia, Siria y el Asia Menor y descendió hasta la India haciendo de su organización tribal un imperio mundial. Timur quería completar el sueño de restaurar el imperio de su predecesor Gengis Kan.

A pesar de su temible fama, fue un gran promotor de las artes y el responsable de originar un nuevo florecimiento cultural y artístico promovido desde la capital, Samarcanda, reconstruida por él mismo. Trajo a los mejores artistas del momento en Oriente y Occidente para levantar y hacer realidad sus aspiraciones. Lamentablemente sólo una parte de este esplendor ha llegado hasta nuestros días
