Sand gapers and people walking - a photo on Flickriver

            These sand gapers were washed ashore because of the storm. Normally they live at about 40cm under the sand and only their siphon touches the sea water. Once on the beach, they cannot burrow themselves anymore. Some of them, at this moment, were still alive! I felt sad for them, because they were doomed to die soon. Normally they don't live at this place in the Netherlands.
