Big Bend National Park/Terlingua 10/3/2019

            Photo taken Thursday, October 3, 2019 in Big Bend National Park. It is a vast area that encompasses 801,163 acres. That's so big it is the only national park that totally contains it's own mountain range. A couple of the mountains are over 7,500 feet. In the course of a day, you can drive through flat desert, up winding mountain roads and then wander along the bank of the Rio Grande River. We had a great time staying in Terlingua, an old quicksilver mining town in southwest Texas just outside of Big Bend National Park. The town, while not a ghost town, comes close. It has cool old ruins scattered throughout the town. Terlingua is best known for it's annual chili cook-off. Big Bend National Park is of course, amazing. Photo copyright Clif Bosler, 2019.
