Leafhopper - Cuerna septentrionalis (Cicadellidae, Cicadellinae, Proconiini) 112p-23369

            With its bold red stripes and yellow spots, this large leafhopper can easily identified down to the genus level but, unfortunately, there are two visually identical species which can only be separated with the aid of a microscope. Although their ranges overlap, Cuerna striata is more common in the southern part of their combined range while C. septentrionalis is much more likely to be found in the boreal/parkland region of Alberta where this one was photographed.
