Blue Hour at Merced National Wildlife Refuge

            Those of us who love photography know that patience is high on the list of necessary attributes. I was reminded of this today. My wife and I set up our tripods, and waited at the sunset spot we knew would be good if we were lucky. After waiting until well after the weak sun had disappeared between a thick layer of clouds, we decided this was a "no sunset" day and broke down our equipment. Just as we were about to drive home, I asked my wife to look up. Incredibly, this is what we saw. We rushed to retrieve our cameras and took some handheld shots. I feel fortunate that I got this one, acceptable image.
