It’s not all bird and mammal photography for me. I started out on my photographic journey doing a lot of macro photography and that includes insects and other creatures that we rarely get to see, flowers too. Spring is upon us and that means wildflowers, insects, and other macro-opportunities. Yes, that also means a lot of mating behaviors and baby animals too, but sometimes I get overwhelmed by the lack of subjects or the overwhelming number of images being taken of a certain event and I just need a change. So, I put away the 500mm lens and pull out either the 100mm or the MP-E65mm macro lenses and start experimenting with the other end of the animal kingdom.

Now I know insect photos are not going to get the number of likes that a cute fuzzy animal will. But in my opinion, it’s interesting to look into the world of other creatures. The insect world is very alien to most of us, creatures that if 6 feet tall would be the things of nightmares and horror movies and in their own little worlds are sometimes horrendous creatures.

This particular image is for the most part just a study of what my new Canon R5 mirrorless camera can do when used with my current macro lenses. Dandelion Aphids are abundant in my yard and unfortunately so are dandelions. So, we work with what we are given. I hope you enjoy this look through the window in the daily life of Aphids. Pretty cool in my opinion.
