rotterdam - schouwburgplein (2012) 3

Schouwburgplein (West 8, 1991-1996), an important attempt at public space with the capacity for being reconfigured by the users, in this case through control of lighting cranes. The controls don't seem to work anymore, and to my eyes the potential for meaningful transformation/participation seems limited, but it's still interesting as an example of the long tail of the Fun Palace and other more ambitiously techno-participatory projects of the 1960s.

These irregular plastic seating elements, designed by PPAG, have cropped up at various European plazas - see the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna.
