Red-and-black Froghopper - Cercopis vulnerata 1c

            A partial view of the underside of a Red-and-black Froghopper, Cercopsis vulnerata, on a plant stem it jumped onto to avoid the very scary mm scale I tried to place beside it.  

Virtually no insects are harmed as I photograph them, but quite a few are bothered by me. I don't apologise - in exchange for a few minutes of disturbance, the fact of their existence can be appreciated years after they have ceased to be living, breathing (?) beings!  [Is breathing the right word for insects that do not exactly use lungs for collecting oxygen - love the way there's always so much more to learn!]
