An optical phenomenon, aka "The Glory of the Pilot" (I did not make that up, I copied it from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glory_(optical_phenomenon) )
When seen from mountains, it has been called the 'Brocken spectre', which sounds far more sinister.
