Renard roux (Vulpes vulpes) (118) - a photo on Flickriver

            Un magnifique renardeau roux (Vulpes vulpes), Neuchâtel, Suisse.
Le renard peut creuser sa tanière, mais souvent il occupe et transforme un terrier de blaireau ou d’un autre animal. C’est là qu’il élève ses petits. Tapissée de feuilles et d’herbes, la tanière est située de 1 à 3 mètres sous terre et possède plusieurs issues. Un couple peut utiliser la même tanière pendant plusieurs années. Les petits sont sevrés à environs 4 semaines, qui coïncident avec le changement de fourrure, passant gentiment du noir au roux. Ils s’aventurent alors hors du terrier de plus en plus fréquemment. En régurgitant des aliments à moitié digérés, la renarde acclimate ses renardeaux à un nouveau régime alimentaire. Tout au cours de l’été, les parents initient leurs petits à la chasse et peu à peu les laissent se débrouiller par eux-mêmes.
