Cool Cow Crossing

            One of my very favorite vantage points in the Bitterroot Valley of
western Montana, I cannot tell you exactly where this one is.  The next thing you know, there would be a crowd there and, eventually a larger crowd, and you know how those crowds can get out of control after awhile.  Especially photographers.  Rabid rascals sometimes.  You could even get poked with a tripod.  

I exercised a lot of patience for this one, hanging around long enough for a couple of cows to cross to the other side of the irrigation canal, coming in off the Bitterroot River, exactly like the
proverbial chickens who crossed the road.

I made this capture hand-held, shooting an internal HDR shot
without a tripod, usually a tricky affair.  But I had a fence post to
steady me and I used a high shutter speed to increase my chances of success.  The shot held its own in the focus department, and the sky and the lighting were downright dreamy compensation if the focus is a tad soft.

For the record, this one was shot in the late afternoon, as opposed to the early morning.  My sunrise shots are rare, owing to very late nights editing photos into the wee hours of the morning.  I do set the alarm every once in awhile, and get out and shoot a bit at dawn, just to keep myself honest and to break
with tradition and habit.  A good idea every once in awhile.
