Belizean Moonrise - a photo on Flickriver

Belizean Moonrise

            Where time literally slows down... :)

I spent an incredible July 4th week in Roatan, Honduras and Ambergris Caye, Belize, and I was lucky enough to have a full moonrise while in Belize. Though there were some low clouds to contend with, and my tripod completely broke in transit, I managed to come up with this image with which I'm very happy. My improvised tripod was a beach chair and a beach bag stuffed with clothes to make a beanbag. Obviously this setup wasn't very stable, so I used a remote shutter release to reduce shutter shake. Most of my images still had a bit of blur, but a few worked out.

Watching the moon rise up over the ocean was especially cool because the moon rises over land/hills here in the Bay Area, and this forced me to rethink a water composition. I liked this sweet little dock for its weathered wood and collections of conch shells, which are ubiquitous in Belize. There was even a coconut rolling gently near the shore.
