The castle was built in the 14th century for the duke of Orleans. After many fights and battles between the ones and the others, it was dismantled and left as a ruin in the 17th century. 
Napoleon the 3rd, order its restoration in the 19th century. The main base of the building was kept, but a lot of modern techniques were introduced that were not possible before the 19th century. The use of large steel structures and central heating for example. It si today a massive, impressive and beautiful monument to see.
